Art Talks in The Tournament City

Leaving Golden Legacies on Canada’s Main Street

The Art Story Journey begins…

Narrative by Lorrie Fleming – Scribed March 8, 2019

Kamloops {where a river & a railway runs through it} dubbed ‘Canada’s Tournament Capital’ (aka River City), has cast a fresh new image in the form of ‘mural story art’ that’s coming alive into powerful outdoor galleries! Our beloved “Angel of Murals”, Michelle has spread her wings with vivid brush strokes overarching the “ARTROUTEBLUE” initiative pumped into the heart of the Interior City.  Nestled at the gateway of (3) connective highways, where the ‘Trans Canada is Main Street’, Kamloops is poised to be an Art Heritage Hub, set to tell the tales of our vast history.

Within this unique vintage landscape, Art is our ‘eyes’, the ancestral stories depicted are our ‘ears’ and the walls become our ‘soul’! The phrase “If walls could talk” is no longer a myth.  This Art Story initiative is a new reality that’s soon to be available for the traveling public to embark on a journey to discover a timely experience that’s situated along the colorful vestiges engrained deeply into the culture of this ‘City of Gold’.

Profiling Kamloops into the centerfold of “ART Route Blue” is a perfect fit!   Recognized as a National Gateway, the City sits at the confluence of two rivers that flow a lifeline into the many townsites and communities that fall within the headwaters of Interior life.   These are the places where stories are told, treasures are discovered, and life is transformed into legacies.

Public Story Art has the distinct capacity to become a center point to welcome a merging of regional districts {within the Okanagan/Thompson/Nicola/ & Cariboo} having no visible boundaries in the movement of humanity.  May our transportation corridors flow like rivers of gold along a network of public art, becoming a visual guide with a succinct voice of “people, place & planet”, uniting one & all upon Canada’s Main Street.  The Highway is our canvas and the world is welcome as an expressway into the heart of our distinct heritage that hold onto the stories unfolding into our landscape.
