Way will stay!

Legacy Statement of Michelle Loughery Founder, Wayfinder Art Route Blue

What is mine is not only paint on walls — it is a lifetime of stories turned into light. It is the courage to stand in the open air with a brush and a dream, and to turn community into colour.

My murals are not decorations. They are mirrors of belonging — living maps of who we are, and who we hope to be. Each one was born through collaboration, through teaching, through youth who found their first sense of purpose standing beside me with paint on their hands. Each one carries the names, laughter, and labour of people who believed that art could change the way a town feels about itself.

This legacy — the Wayfinder murals, the trails, the stories, the Wayfinder model itself — is my life’s architecture. It was built not for ownership, but for stewardship. I created it in trust — for my children, my grandchildren, and every child who has ever needed to see that beauty and purpose are within reach.

To My Children — This is my gift to you. You are the next keepers of these walls. They carry your lineage — of art, courage, compassion, and truth. You have inherited not only the images, but the idea behind them: that creation is an act of freedom. That voice and vision are sacred. That no one can take away what was built in integrity and love.

If others claim the paint, they cannot claim the purpose. If they use the image, they cannot own the soul. What I have made is part of the landscape of this country — a bridge between communities, cultures, and generations. That bridge belongs to you now.

I, Michelle Loughery, declare that the murals, the Wayfinder Project, and the Wayfinder Art Route are the original creations of my hand, heart, and mind — developed through decades of community partnerships, public art innovation, and service to Canada’s youth, heritage, and cultural infrastructure.

This intellectual and cultural property remains protected, recognized, and intact — not as a commodity, but as a public trust authored by me, and carried forward through my name, my family, and my foundation.

What is mine is truthfully earned and publicly proven. What endures is love — and the art that made it visible.

“The murals will fade one day, but the way will remain.” — Michelle Loughery
